Choose Your Outdoor Space Design Carefully
Architecture is usually discussed in relation to buildings, but it is just as important to think about the architecture of your garden. Creating an outdoor space that complements the property and one that is both user friendly and aesthetically pleasing is not always easy. This is why a thorough design brief is essential before any work starts.
A fully landscaped garden can be viewed as over the top by some but when done correctly can save money, time and integrate the property into its surroundings. It can also add value when the time comes to sell as it will set the property apart from others in the community.
The best way to begin the process is to decide what elements you want in the garden before meeting with a designer. Don't overlook the important elements such as a pool or entertaining area. A quality landscape architect should then be able to put together a concept of your wish list and make the garden flow and work for all the family. They will have many ideas running through their mind, including what finishes, wall claddings even pool tiles will work.
Colour and the texture of surfaces are very important when making a garden fit together and creating the right atmosphere. Don't be afraid to speak your mind - remember it is your garden - plans can then be adapted where required. However, don't be offended if a designer disagrees - they are professionals so they know what does and doesn't work.
Planting is key when creating a garden as it will help to bring all the elements together, but location is also important as planting shrubs in the right place is vital for them to reach their full potential. Colour and texture in the planting is also important in providing privacy or creating different "areas". Due to the harsh UAE climate, plants may be incorporated that you are unfamiliar with but your designer can give guidance on caring for them.
One final point, but perhaps the most important, is money. Set a budget and discuss this with your architect - even if they are employed by a contracting company. A quality designer will be able to design a garden to your budget or at least be able to advise a price range you need to be looking at to achieve your garden goals.
